Karnataka has started the first ever educational theatre workshop way back in 1965. Literally 60 years back it was started by Mr. Adya Rangacharya (Sriranga), the famous playwright, who was the chairman of the Karnataka Sangeet Natak Academy, at that time. Mr. Govinda Gowda , the education minister then, was himself an amazingly wonderful human being and very culturally oriented person, whole heartedly supported the program initiated by Sriranga. They both jointly organized the first ever workshop in Bengaluru.

Indian Institute for Educational Theatre, which has commenced its functioning two years back, is engaged in fostering various activities with its core objective of TIE in the centre. It is conducting workshops, training programs to impart theatre skills which can be effectively used in teaching. It has organized a national children theatre festival during September 2023. As part of the festival, a National Colloquium on Theatre in Education was organised. National and international experts in TIE were actively participated in the two days colloquium. Theatre groups from all over the country working towards TIE have come with more than 40 children theatre productions. The festival which was the first of its kind was a huge success.

Regular workshops are being organized in IIET with the experts in the field of TIE as its director. Workshops are targeted towards train the teachers and theatre actors interested in TIE program. Presently Mr. Rajneesh Bisht is directing and facilitating the TIE workshops in IIET. He is probably one of the most experienced exponents of educational theatre who has worked with Barry John, who is another senior most expert in the field of Theatre in Education. Rajneesh has done extensive work all over the country in the field of educational theatre.
